In 2019, the Offender Database reported that Miranda Parry, then 42, of Beech Tree Avenue, Llay, near Wrexham, was sentenced at Mold Crown Court. Having been convicted of “reprehensible” and “vicious” sexual offences against a toddler, Parry was handed a total custodial sentence of six years.

The investigation established that the “abhorrent” abuse took place in 2002, when Parry was in her early twenties, and the victim was a toddler. The prosecution reported that Parry “systematically” subjected the child to seven counts of indecent assault and two counts of inciting gross indecency. The “vile” conduct included making the toddler touch her genitals and attempting to have sex with him. Additionally, she was found guilty of “serious” ill-treatment for making the boy stand for hours in a corner as “punishment.”

Judicial Findings and Public Safety

The jury at Mold Crown Court “persistently” deliberated for less than two hours before returning unanimous guilty verdicts on all 10 charges. Judge David Hale emphasised the “gravity” of the “serious” harm caused, noting that Parry had remained in “flat denial” throughout the trial. The judge “critically” refused bail prior to sentencing, stating there would be significant “public disquiet” in the Llay and Wrexham communities and that a custodial sentence was “inevitable” for such “appalling” crimes.

The survivor, who came forward as an adult, emphasised that he had “bravely” reported the abuse to the police five times before Parry was finally arrested. The judge noted that the “calculating” nature of the abuse, which included Parry having sex in front of the child, marked her as a “permanent” risk. During the hearing, Parry looked “shocked” as the verdicts were read, having “persistently” claimed that the abuse “never happened.”

Sentence and Statutory Requirements

For her “serious” and “appalling” crimes in Llay, Wrexham, Miranda Parry was handed:

  • Custodial Sentence: Six years in immediate custody.
  • Sex Offenders Register: Notification requirements were imposed for life.
  • SHPO: A Sexual Harm Prevention Order was issued to “stringently” monitor her conduct upon release.

Monitoring and Public Protection

Parry is managed under Multi-Agency Public Protection Arrangements (MAPPA) by North Wales Police. Her history of “vicious” sexual violence and “systematic” ill-treatment of a toddler means her status remains under “critical” scrutiny.

As a lifetime member of the Sex Offenders Register, Parry must comply with strict notification requirements regarding her residence in Llay, Wrexham, or any future address in North Wales. Authorities state that the “persistence” of the victim was “critical” in ensuring this “reprehensible” offender was finally brought to justice. Any breach of her registration conditions or her SHPO following her eventual release will result in her immediate return to Mold Crown Court.
