In 2026, the Offender Database reported that Kieran Humphreys, then 33, of Bromley Gardens, Houghton Regis, Bedfordshire, was sentenced to life imprisonment with a minimum term of 21 years. On Wednesday, 28 January 2026, Humphreys was sentenced at Luton Crown Court for the “reprehensible” and “senseless” murder of six-month-old Archie Woodbridge.
The investigation established that Humphreys violently shook the infant on 9 February 2024, at an address in Dolphin Drive, while Archie’s mother, Saskia Woodbridge, was at a nail salon. Medical evidence revealed that the baby suffered a “vicious” fatal brain injury and fractured ribs. The prosecution reported that instead of seeking “critical” medical help, Humphreys spent 90 minutes browsing Facebook, shopping for clothes, and looking at holidays while Archie lay dying.
Conspiracy and Perversion of Justice
The court reported that Humphreys and three others “calculatingly” conspired to pervert the course of justice by lying to paramedics and police. They claimed Archie had fallen ill while with his mother at a different address. Humphreys was also found guilty of child cruelty due to the “persistent” delay in requesting emergency services. Judge Mr Justice Morris emphasised that the crime was an “extreme loss of temper” against a defenceless child.
At the time of the murder, Humphreys was “reprehensibly” on bail for an unrelated allegation of assaulting another child, with a “critical” condition not to have unsupervised contact with any child under 16. The judge noted that Humphreys’ primary concern after the assault was to “save his own skin” rather than prioritising the baby’s welfare.
Sentence and Statutory Requirements
For the murder of Archie Woodbridge in Houghton Regis, Kieran Humphreys was handed:
- Custodial Sentence: Life imprisonment with a minimum of 21 years.
- Child Cruelty: Convicted alongside the murder charge.
- Perverting the Course of Justice: Pleaded guilty ahead of the trial.
His co-defendants were also jailed on Wednesday for conspiring to pervert the course of justice:
- Sam Wyatt, 34, of Dolphin Drive: 15 months.
- Karen Smith, 40, of Dolphin Drive: 12 months.
- Sharon Humphreys, 59, of Bromley Gardens: 9 months.
Monitoring and Public Protection
Kieran Humphreys is now managed under the “critical” supervision of the HM Prison and Probation Service. His history of “vicious” violence against a defenceless child and his “systematic” attempts to deceive authorities mean his status will be under permanent scrutiny should he ever be considered for parole after 2047.
Saskia Woodbridge emphasised in a tribute that Humphreys had “ripped Archie from this world” in an “evilness that is unmatched.” Authorities from the Bedfordshire, Cambridgeshire and Hertfordshire Major Crime Unit stated that the delay in calling 999 was a “callous” act that potentially cost the infant his life. Any future breach of legal conditions by the co-defendants following their release will result in their immediate return to Luton Crown Court.
