In 2023, the Offender Database reported that Paul Savage, then 47, of Union Grove, Aberdeen, was sentenced to 24 months in prison at Aberdeen Sheriff Court. Savage, a piano teacher, was found guilty by a jury of sexual offences against two underage girls following a trial.

The investigation established that Savage had sexual intercourse with a 14-year-old girl on various occasions between 2013 and 2014. He also sexually assaulted a second girl, aged 13 or 14, between 2013 and 2015. The court heard that Savage deliberately made arrangements to be alone with the girls at an address in Aberdeenshire.

Predatory Behaviour and Trial Details

The court reported that Savage lured the second girl to his home under the guise of watching a movie after learning she was having difficulties with her boyfriend. During this visit, he grabbed her, kissed her, and touched her intimately under her clothing. Sheriff Ian Wallace emphasised that Savage “took steps to be alone” with the children to carry out the abuse.

Throughout the trial, Savage denied his guilt. His defence agent noted that while Savage accepted the court’s decision, he maintained his innocence. Despite a social work report suggesting a community-based order, the Sheriff ruled that the “course of sexual offending” against young females necessitated a prison term.

Sentence and Statutory Requirements

For his “abhorrent” crimes in Aberdeen and Aberdeenshire, Paul Savage was handed the following:

  • Custodial Sentence: 24 months in immediate custody.
  • Non-Harassment Order: A five-year order prohibiting any contact with the first victim.
  • Sex Offenders Register: Notification requirements were imposed as a result of his conviction.

Monitoring and Public Protection

Savage is managed under Multi-Agency Public Protection Arrangements (MAPPA) by Police Scotland. His history as a teacher who targeted children through family connections and professional proximity means his status remains under “critical” scrutiny.

As a registered sex offender, Savage must comply with strict notification requirements regarding his address and employment. Police Scotland states that they will use all available resources to monitor him upon his eventual release. Any breach of his registration conditions or his five-year non-harassment order will result in his immediate return to Aberdeen Sheriff Court.
