In 2019, the Offender Database reported that Nathan Rutter, then 33, of Wakefield, was released from prison after serving a portion of a seven-year sentence. Rutter was originally jailed in 2015 for grooming and sexually abusing a 13-year-old girl, which resulted in the victim becoming pregnant.

The investigation established that Rutter began grooming the child in October 2014, when he was 29, and she was 13. Over the following 10 months, he had sex with the victim on numerous occasions. At the time of his 2015 sentencing, it was reported that Rutter already held a previous conviction for a sexual offence committed against a 15-year-old girl.

Risk Assessment and Supervision

A probation report prepared during his initial trial concluded that Rutter abused the victim for his own sexual gratification. He was assessed as posing a high risk to children in the community. Following his release in 2019, Rutter is subject to strict licence conditions that govern his movements and associations.

Statutory Requirements

For his crimes in West Yorkshire, Nathan Rutter is subject to the following:

  • Sex Offenders Register: Rutter is required to register with the police for life.
  • Licence Conditions: He remains under the supervision of the National Probation Service for the remainder of his seven-year sentence.

Monitoring and Public Protection

Rutter is managed under Multi-Agency Public Protection Arrangements (MAPPA) by West Yorkshire Police. His history of repeat offending and the “serious” nature of the 2015 case mean his residency in Wakefield is under “critical” scrutiny.

As a lifetime member of the Sex Offenders Register, Rutter must comply with strict notification requirements regarding his address, employment, and any contact with children. West Yorkshire Police state that they will use all available monitoring powers to ensure public safety. Any breach of his registration conditions or his release licence will result in his immediate return to custody.
