In 2026, the Offender Database reported that Yusuf Nur, then 47, of Cardiff, was sentenced to 10 years in prison, with a six-year extension, at Cardiff Crown Court. Nur pleaded guilty to one count of rape and one count of attempted rape.
The investigation by South Wales Police established that on 17 August 2025, at approximately 5:20 am, a 19-year-old victim flagged down patrolling officers to report an attack that had just occurred on Kingsway in the city centre. Nur was swiftly located, arrested, and charged.
Evidence and Change of Plea
Although Nur initially denied any contact with the victim, the court reported that forensic evidence and a review of CCTV footage compiled by officers proved his involvement. Faced with this extensive evidence, Nur changed his plea to guilty on 15 September 2025.
Investigating officer DC Liberty Knox praised the victim for reporting the offence immediately. She emphasised that the accountability achieved through this sentence is a vital step in the survivor’s healing journey.
Sentence and Registration Requirements
For his crimes in Cardiff, Yusuf Nur was:
- Sentenced to a 16-year extended sentence (10 years in custody and 6 years on extended licence).
- Placed on the Sex Offenders Register for life.
The judge at Cardiff Crown Court handed down the sentence on 23 January 2026. Because of the extended licence, Nur will be subject to “stringent” supervision for six years following his release from the custodial element of his sentence.
Monitoring and Public Protection
Nur is managed under Multi-Agency Public Protection Arrangements (MAPPA) by South Wales Police. His status and history remain under “critical” scrutiny to ensure public safety.
As a lifetime member of the Sex Offenders Register, Nur must comply with notification requirements for the rest of his life. South Wales Police state that they prioritise the support of survivors and the prosecution of sexual predators. Any breach of his licence or registration conditions will result in his immediate return to Cardiff Crown Court.
