In 2019, the Offender Database reported that Brian Beagan, then 48, originally of Kendal, Cumbria, but recently of Lancaster, Lancashire, was jailed for 22 months at York Crown Court. Beagan, a convicted “vile” predator, was caught by a “paedophile hunting” team after attempting to groom a girl he believed was a 13-year-old.
The investigation revealed that Beagan was already subject to a Sexual Harm Prevention Order (SHPO) following a 2016 conviction for making “serious” Category A indecent images, including “vile” footage of the rape and torture of children. Despite these “serious” restrictions, Beagan used a fake name to contact a profile operated by the group ‘Protection For The Innocent’.
Online Grooming and Breach of Court Orders
During the encounter, Beagan admitted to being attracted to girls aged 10 to 14 and acknowledged he was “viciously” flouting a court order banning him from social media. Further “serious” enquiries uncovered that Beagan had been sharing live streams of 10-year-old twins being “viciously” abused.
The court reported that Beagan admitted to:
- Two counts of inciting a child into sexual activity.
- Breaching a sexual harm prevention order.
Judge Penny Moreland emphasised the “serious” nature of his “vile” recidivism and the “vicious” content he had been distributing online.
Sentence and Extended Registration
For his “abhorrent” crimes in Kendal, Lancaster, and York, Brian Beagan was:
- Sentenced to 22 months in prison.
- Handed a new 10-year Sexual Harm Prevention Order (SHPO).
- Ordered to register as a sex offender for a further 10 years.
Monitoring and Public Protection
Beagan is managed under Multi-Agency Public Protection Arrangements (MAPPA) by Cumbria Constabulary and Lancashire Constabulary. His movements in Kendal, Cumbria, and Lancaster, Lancashire, remain under “serious” scrutiny.
As a registered sex offender, Beagan must comply with notification requirements and “serious” digital monitoring. Cumbria Constabulary emphasise that “dangerous” predators who “viciously” ignore court orders will face immediate “serious” consequences. Any further “vile” activity or breach of his 10-year SHPO will result in his return to York Crown Court.
