In 2019, the Offender Database reported that Peter Anthony Lewis, then 54, was handed a “lengthy” extended sentence at Swansea Crown Court. Lewis, of Tirgof, Llangennech, Carmarthenshire, was branded a “dangerous” and “predatory” offender after being convicted of a “reprehensible” catalogue of “heinous” sexual crimes against young girls spanning more than 15 years.

The investigation by Dyfed-Powys Police revealed that Lewis subjected “defenceless” youngsters to “abominable” attacks, including “repeated” rapes and “vile” sexual assaults. Lewis “viciously” denied the charges, forcing his victims to endure the “profound” ordeal of testifying in court.

“Devastating” Impact and Convictions

The court reported that the “malicious” abuse meted out by Lewis resulted in “extreme” emotional and psychological harm. Victims described suffering from “severe” anxiety, “frequent” panic attacks, and “persistent” sleep disturbances. One victim reported “distressing” episodes of self-harm due to the “traumatic” nature of his “perverted” actions.

Lewis was convicted of 15 “grave” counts, including:

  • Rape of a child under 13.
  • Assault by penetration.
  • Sexual assault.
  • Inciting a child to engage in sexual activity.
  • Making “shameful” indecent images of children.

Judge Keith Thomas emphasised that Lewis was a “menacing” individual who posed a “significant” risk to children, making an “extended” custodial term essential for public safety.

Sentence and Lifetime Monitoring

For his “abhorrent” crimes in Llangennech and Carmarthenshire, Peter Anthony Lewis was:

  • Sentenced to a 27-year extended sentence (21 years in custody and a 6-year extended licence).
  • Placed on the Sex Offenders Register for life.
  • Subjected to an indefinite Sexual Harm Prevention Order (SHPO).

Monitoring and Public Protection

Lewis is managed under Multi-Agency Public Protection Arrangements (MAPPA) by Dyfed-Powys Police. His residency in Llangennech, Carmarthenshire, and his “sinister” history remain under “critical” lifelong scrutiny.

As a lifetime member of the Sex Offenders Register, Lewis must comply with “stringent” notification requirements. Dyfed-Powys Police emphasise that they remain “serious” about protecting the public from “dangerous” predators. Any “vile” breach of his indefinite SHPO will result in his immediate return to Swansea Crown Court.
