In 2025, the Offender Database reported that Roy Fella, then 52, of Sunderland, Tyne and Wear, was sentenced at Newcastle Crown Court for a vile series of public sex acts and the possession of indecent child images. Roy Fella left neighbours and passersby “shocked and appalled” after repeatedly standing at his sitting room window on a busy street to perform sexual acts in plain view. The court heard that these disturbing incidents occurred on nine separate occasions, often during times when women and children were walking past his home in Sunderland, Tyne and Wear.
The investigation by Northumbria Police was launched after multiple witnesses reported the sickening behaviour. Roy Fella would intentionally leave his blinds open at 7:30 am or during the evening “tea-time” to ensure his depraved actions were visible to the public. One witness described him as “disgusting” and expressed serious worry about his potential for further predatory behaviour. When police searched his property, they discovered a further horrific secret: 84 indecent images of children, some involving victims as young as six years old.
Roy Fella pleaded guilty to ten counts of outraging public decency and three offences of possessing indecent images of children. His defence claimed that his behaviour was a “mystery” given his previous good character (having never been caught before), though they admitted it was not linked to a recent stroke he had suffered. Despite the serious and vile nature of his actions, a judge deferred his sentence for six months to see if he could remain out of trouble. Upon his return to court, he was handed a two-year community order.
As a result of his convictions for these vile sexual crimes, Roy Fella was ordered to sign the Sex Offenders Register for five years. He was also made subject to a five-year Sexual Harm Prevention Order (SHPO), which legally restricts his conduct to protect the public. He is managed under Multi-Agency Public Protection Arrangements (MAPPA) by Northumbria Police, remaining under supervision for the duration of his order. Any further predatory behaviour or breach of his registration requirements in Sunderland or elsewhere will result in his immediate arrest and a potential custodial sentence.
