In 2017, the Offender Database confirmed that Rhiannon Scott, then 25, of Wrexham, Clwyd, was sentenced to two years in prison at Mold Crown Court for the systematic grooming and sexual abuse of a schoolboy. Rhiannon Scott met the victim, aged 14 at the time, through online role-play games before escalating the relationship to physical meetings and sexual activity. The abuse only came to light during a disastrous camping trip where Scott pitched a tent too close to a river that burst its banks; emergency services who arrived to rescue the pair discovered the boy hiding inside the tent, leading to a full criminal investigation.
The court heard that Rhiannon Scott pleaded guilty to two charges of meeting a boy following grooming with the intent to commit a sexual offence and four counts of sexual activity with a child, including intercourse. Rhiannon Scott also admitted to possessing an indecent photograph of a child and causing a child to view an image of a person engaged in a sexual act. During her time in custody, it was noted that the children of Scott were being cared for by their grandmother, while the defendant served her sentence for what the judge described as a serious breach of trust against a vulnerable minor.
Rhiannon Scott was handed a two-year custodial sentence in December 2017, meaning her release on license was scheduled for 2019. Upon her release, it was reported that Scott would be residing in either Liverpool, Merseyside, or Wrexham, Clwyd. As part of her release conditions, Rhiannon Scott is subject to intensive supervision by the National Probation Service to ensure she adheres to strict residency and behaviour requirements designed to prevent further predatory activity.
As a result of her convictions, Rhiannon Scott was ordered to sign the Sex Offenders Register for ten years. Rhiannon Scott is also subject to a Sexual Harm Prevention Order (SHPO) lasting ten years, which places significant restrictions on her internet usage and her ability to contact children. Official monitoring is conducted by Merseyside Police and North Wales Police under Multi-Agency Public Protection Arrangements (MAPPA), ensuring that any breach of these conditions in the Liverpool or Wrexham areas results in her immediate recall to prison.
