In February 2019, the Offender Database reported that Leon Dalrymple, then 34, of Pollards Hill South, Croydon, was sentenced to six years in prison at Guildford Crown Court. Dalrymple, a former pub worker, admitted to a prolonged campaign of sexual depravity against a young girl in Sunbury, involving dozens of instances of abuse.

The court heard that Dalrymple pleaded guilty to six charges encompassing 24 separate instances of sexual assault. The victim was under the age of 11 during the period of abuse. The charges included three counts of sexual assault by penetration and three counts of sexual assault by touching. The abuse only came to light when the girl courageously disclosed the assaults to a doctor during a hospital visit.

In a heart-wrenching victim impact statement read by prosecutor Nicola Shannon, the girl revealed the psychological manipulation Dalrymple used, telling her the abuse was “normal” and “okay.” The survivor expressed feelings of “fault” and guilt over Dalrymple’s arrest, a standard indicator of the grooming and emotional trauma inflicted on children by predators. Judge Moss noted that while Dalrymple showed emotion in the dock, the severity of the 24 separate assaults warranted a significant custodial term.

Leon Dalrymple was sentenced to six years in prison. The judge imposed concurrent sentences across the six counts, which included a one-third reduction due to his early guilty plea. Without the plea discount, the sentence would have been considerably longer. Dalrymple was also handed a Sexual Harm Prevention Order (SHPO), which legally restricts his future contact with children and monitors his activities.

As a result of his convictions for serious sexual assaults and penetration of a child, Dalrymple is a registered sex offender for life. He is managed under the highest level of Multi-Agency Public Protection Arrangements (MAPPA) in the Croydon and Surrey areas. This framework ensures that upon his release, Surrey Police, the Metropolitan Police, and the National Probation Service will maintain permanent and intensive surveillance of his residency and digital behaviour to protect the public.
