In July 2022, the Offender Database reported that a young child had been sexually assaulted by Steven Smith, the Pulborough Paedophile Sex Offender, in June of that year.
The victim and his family, acquainted with Steven Smith, received assistance from specialised officers as an inquiry commenced.
At the time of the complaint, Steven Smith was already under a Sexual Harm Prevention Order (SHPO) due to a conviction for child sex offences in 2017. The ruling forbade Smith from engaging with male minors under the age of 18.
Steven Smith, 28, of Lower Street in Pulborough, was apprehended and indicted for the rape of a male child under 13, attempted rape of a boy under 13, sexual assault by touching of a boy under 13, and violation of a Sexual Harm Prevention Order.
On 21 August 2024, at Lewes Crown Court, Smith entered a plea of not guilty to all counts but subsequently acknowledged violating the SHPO.
Subsequent to a trial, he was additionally convicted of attempted rape and sexual assault, and on Monday, 3 November, at Lewes Crown Court, he received a nine-year prison sentence.
Steven Smith was subjected to an indefinite Sexual Harm Prevention Order and will be a registered sex offender for life.
