In 2022, Judge James Townsend sentenced Keith Foster, the Castleford Rapist, to nine years in prison following his conviction for four acts against her, stating: “I wish to commend her for her bravery in coming forward and having to recount these offences publicly in a courtroom.”
The incident has made a lasting impact on her life, influencing her even now,” he stated.
Keith Foster, residing on Wesley Street in Castleford, faced trial at Swindon Crown Court this week, accused of two counts of rape, one crime of engaging in sexual activity with a minor, and one case of inducing a minor to observe a sexual act.
The then 44-year-old, Keith Foster, visibly emotional in the dock and accompanied by a solitary security guard, was unanimously found guilty on all four charges by the jury following three hours and 40 minutes of deliberation.
The court was informed that the victim was a teenager at the time of the incident, and one image presented to her had persisted in her memory for 15 years.
Prosecutor Ian Fenny to the jury, “You will remember that the defendant stated, ‘I wouldn’t watch such grotesque material.’”
The court is well aware of the ramifications of this type of sexual abuse. The jury will be disheartened to learn that we handle these instances consistently.
“She was deeply traumatised by the entire prospect of providing testimony.” She perceived the entire process as exceedingly daunting.
Keith Foster, a father of three born in Leeds, had “laboured diligently throughout much of his life, engaging in various occupations,” stated his counsel, Mohammed Rafiq.
He has been aware of these issues for some years and has cooperated, as evidenced by his visit to the police station. He responded to the enquiries and did not use his right to remain silent. He appeared in court and provided his testimony.
“During his incarceration, he will have the opportunity to engage in various activities, participate in courses, acquire trades, and reflect on his actions in an effort to improve himself upon release.”
I implore the judge to exercise maximum leniency given the circumstances. Any duration of incarceration will be profoundly challenging, but I implore Your Honour to frame the sentence in a manner that offers him a glimmer of hope, acknowledging that it will be an extended journey.
Keith Foster will serve two-thirds of his sentence prior to becoming eligible for release.
