Amanda Fulton, 36, from Rockfield Gardens in Mosside near Ballymoney, County Antrim, was convicted of causing or permitting a child to endure physical damage and of child cruelty. The judge sentenced Amanda Fulton to four years, with two years on licence, stating she “failed to protect” P, aware that her husband “was quite capable of inflicting serious harm” on him.

Newry Crown Court was informed that upon the newborn’s admission to the Royal Belfast Hospital for Sick Children, medical professionals discovered a fractured skull, intracranial and retinal haemorrhaging, a laceration to the liver, nearly 30 rib fractures, and bilateral fractures in both legs.
The six-year-old youngster currently endures severe dystonic cerebral palsy, is functionally blind, possesses an intellectual handicap, experiences seizures, can only communicate by sobbing, and cannot be consoled when he cries. He is nourished via a feeding tube and has a life-limiting ailment.
