On Thursday, July 24, 2025, Sid Ali Djelid (born January 9, 1986), also known as Mourad Malki, the Manchester Rapist, of Smedley Road, was convicted on five counts of rape in the city centre after a five-week trial at Manchester Crown Court.

The court was informed that the series of rapes occurred between February and July 2024, during which Sid Ali Djelid preyed upon and assaulted drunk victims in the city centre.

The initial of the three assaults transpired on Sunday, 18 February 2024, during the early morning hours. CCTV film depicts Sid Ali Djelid escorting his female victim along a remote alley adjacent to China Town, where he then raped her, stole her mobile phone, and fled the scene.

Her cell phone was located on Smedley Road in Cheetham Hill, in proximity to Sid Ali Djelid’s residence.

Sid Ali Djelid, purportedly an Algerian national, perpetrated his second crime on Wednesday, June 12, 2024, when he accosted a victim visiting Manchester for work outside a pub on Canal Street. Following a dialogue with the victim, he escorted him to a secluded area near Richmond Street and assaulted him sexually.

Sid Ali Djelid once more pilfered possessions from the victim, specifically his phone, watch, and necklace. The victim’s stolen phone was located near Vallea Court in Cheetham Hill.

In that occasion, Sid Ali Djelid is captured on CCTV sporting a striking black puffer jacket.

Sid Ali Djelid’s last assault prior to his capture on Sunday, July 21, 2024, occurred three days earlier, on July 18, 2024, when he approached his male victim, who was visiting Manchester, and offered to help him return to his hotel as he was disoriented. Sid Ali Djelid presented himself as a benevolent Samaritan, however his motives were far from genuine.

He directed the victim to a remote section of the canal at Jutland Street and assaulted him sexually.

In a manner comparable to prior events, he seized the victim’s phone and wallet, forcibly shoved the victim to the ground, and thereafter fled the scene. Shortly thereafter, Sid Ali Djelid visited a service station in Cheetham Hill and employed one of the bank cards to execute a fraudulent transaction, thereafter attempting another transaction with the stolen bank card, which was declined. The stolen cell phone was once more located in the Cheetham Hill vicinity.

Sid Ali Djelid had earlier pleaded guilty to four charges of theft associated with this inquiry.
