A former Wiltshire Paedophile police officer, Robert Gabbott from Melksham, has confessed to offences concerning obscene pictures of minors.

Robert Gabbott, 64, also referred to as Bob, admitted to the collection and distribution of numerous abhorrent child abuse photos during his appearance at Swindon Magistrates’ Court.

The married defendant residing on Elizabeth Close, Melksham, was instructed to register as a sex offender within 72 hours following the hearing in late November.

The matter was considered too grave for magistrates, resulting in its referral to Swindon Crown Court. He is scheduled to be sentenced in January 2023.

Robert Gabbott, a member of Wiltshire Freemasons and a marshal at the Melksham vaccination centre, pleaded guilty to two charges of disseminating obscene photos of a minor in categories A and B.

Robert Gabbott also admitted to three counts of producing obscene photos of a child, comprising 200 in category A, 199 in category B, and 457 in category C.

Category A photos, which may be either moving or motionless, depict penetrative sexual behaviour; Category B encompasses non-penetrative sexual activity; and Category C include images that do not fit into either Category A or B.

The offences occurred between 18 September 2021 and 14 January 2022.

Robert Gabbott was granted unconditional bail pending punishment.
