In 2019, the Offender Database reported that Muhammed Mucahid, then 58, of Gladstone Avenue, London, was sentenced at Basildon Crown Court for a predatory sexual assault on a child. Muhammed Mucahid targeted an 11-year-old boy in the toilets of a McDonald’s on Southend High Street, Southend-on-Sea, Essex. During the disturbing incident, Mucahid kissed the boy on the cheek and attempted to usher him into a toilet cubicle with the intent to carry out further abuse. The boy managed to flee and alerted his father, who was ordering food at the time.

The court heard that after the initial assault, Muhammed Mucahid was seen following another child and their mother into the same toilets. The victim’s father alerted staff, and an off-duty Special Constable overheard the situation. The officer followed Mucahid and detained him until backup arrived. Despite denying the vile allegations, Muhammed Mucahid was found guilty of assaulting a boy under the age of 13 by sexual touching. It was also noted that a charge for breaching a previous Sexual Harm Prevention Order was left to lie on file, indicating a history of sexual offending.

Judge Ian Graham sentenced Muhammed Mucahid to 14 months in prison on February 1, 2019. The judge highlighted the bravery of the young victim in reporting the incident immediately, which likely prevented Mucahid from targeting other children in the restaurant. The investigation led by Essex Police confirmed that Mucahid had travelled from London to Southend-on-Sea before engaging in the horrific behaviour that led to his arrest.

As a result of his conviction for this violent breach of a child’s safety, Muhammed Mucahid has been ordered to sign the Sex Offenders Register for ten years. He was also made subject to a 10-year Sexual Harm Prevention Order (SHPO), which places legal restrictions on his proximity to children and public toilets. He will be managed under Multi-Agency Public Protection Arrangements (MAPPA) by the Metropolitan Police and Essex Police, remaining under supervision for the duration of his order. Any breach of these conditions in London, Southend, or elsewhere will result in his immediate return to custody.
