In 2019, the Offender Database reported that Kirk Yates, then 22, formerly of Preston, Lancashire, was sentenced at Carlisle Crown Court for breaching the strict conditions of his release. Yates, a “vile” and “vicious” predator, had been relocated to a hostel in Carlisle, Cumbria, following his release from prison in September 2018. The investigation by Cumbria Police revealed that Yates had “vilely” befriended a young mother and obtained a photograph of her with children without disclosing his “serious” criminal history.

The court heard horrendous details of Yates’s previous “vicious” behaviour, which led to him being labelled a “high risk” offender. In 2016, he was jailed for abducting a 13-year-old boy he had “vilely” groomed through Facebook, and was also convicted of making and possessing “sickening” indecent child sexual images. The prosecution emphasised that his latest “serious” breach involved a direct violation of his Sexual Harm Prevention Order (SHPO), which prohibited him from possessing any images of children without the express written permission of a parent who had been informed of his “depraved” past.

During the sentencing, Judge Peter Davies emphasised that Yates presented a “very high risk” to both young girls and boys. Although Yates had been recalled to prison on licence, the judge decided to impose a “serious” three-year community order to ensure he underwent intensive rehabilitation and a sexual offending treatment course. The judge emphasised that this was not a “get out of jail free card” but a “vile” necessity to monitor and manage his “predatory” behaviour within the Carlisle community.

As a result of his conviction for breaching a Sexual Harm Prevention Order, Kirk Yates remains on the Sex Offenders Register for life. He is managed under Multi-Agency Public Protection Arrangements (MAPPA) by Cumbria Police and the National Probation Service, ensuring his behaviour and any “vicious” attempts to contact families in Carlisle, Preston, or elsewhere are strictly monitored. Any further “vile” actions or failures to disclose his status will result in his immediate arrest and return to prison.
