In 2022, John Wayne Poxon, a Wakefield Paedophile, received a 14-year prison sentence for sexual assault offences originating in the 1990s. John Wayne Poxon, 57, of Coniston Crescent, was convicted of 10 charges of indecent assault against a minor under the age of 14.

John Wayne Poxon’s misdeeds originated in the 1990s, commencing when the girls were at four and six years old. He inflicted demeaning and humiliating sexual assaults on the youngsters, instilling terror in them.

The abuse persisted for nearly five years for one of the girls. John Wayne Poxon was convicted in October and sentenced at York Crown Court on November 28.

Detective Sergeant Matthew Brownridge of York CID stated: “John Wayne Poxon deprived the children of their childhood, and his abuse continues to affect their adult lives to this day.” He refuted the allegations during police interrogations and exposed the victims to additional trauma by compelling them to recount the torture he perpetrated in a courtroom setting. I am immensely gratified that the jurors discovered his true nature.

The victims have exhibited remarkable bravery in reporting the assault and providing testimony to the court. I understand the challenges inherent in such a situation. I trust that the verdict allows them to move past John Wayne Poxon’s egregious abuse, with the knowledge that he is now enduring a substantial prison sentence for his actions against them.

I also hope it inspires other victims of similar abuse to come forward, regardless of when it occurred. Taking that initial step is challenging; nevertheless, by doing so, you can not only halt an abuser but also safeguard others from potential harm.

You will receive attentive listening and be provided with help and guidance from specialised agencies that can assist you throughout the investigation and thereafter.

The 14-year sentence consists of 13 years of jail with an additional year added.
