In 2022, the Police commended the courage of two victims following the sentencing of Gary Battison, an Essex Paedophile, their abuser, to 13 years in prison.
Gary Battison, 24, of no fixed address, appeared at Southend Crown Court on Wednesday, July 27, after being charged with many sexual offences occurring over seven years.
The Child Abuse Investigation Team commenced a multifaceted inquiry into Gary Battison after his initial apprehension in June 2019. The victim, aged under 13, reported being sexually assaulted.
Following his release under investigation for the initial incident, Gary Battison was re-arrested for analogous offences against another victim, which occurred in 2012.
Gary Battison was promptly charged and detained in jail.
Detective Constable Daniella Rose, the investigating officer, stated, “Gary Battison has demonstrated himself to be a perilous sexual predator who targets vulnerable young boys who are unfamiliar with one another.”
This outcome is attributable to the victim, who summoned the fortitude to appear in court and provide testimony that secured Gary Battison’s conviction.
“In all investigations of sexual offences, our primary focus is on the victims.” Essex Police diligently strive to secure justice while providing enough support throughout the investigative process.
We instituted new procedures designed to safeguard youngsters and young individuals, wherein their cross-examination is pre-recorded before trial.
“I hope the outcome facilitates the victims’ acceptance of their experiences, acknowledges their status as survivors, and ultimately empowers them to progress.”
