In 2022, Elemir Bandy, the Stoke on Trent Sex Offender, a predator who inflicted a heinous sexual assault on a teenage girl aboard a train between Coventry and Birmingham International, was sentenced to 12 years in prison.
On April 3, at approximately 11:20 AM, a 17-year-old was approached by 61-year-old Elemir Bandy while seated on a bench at Coventry Station.
He endeavoured to converse with her, but she disregarded him and departed.
Upon boarding the train to Birmingham New Street, Elemir Bandy engaged her in conversation and provided her with £20 for a drink.’
He subsequently pressed himself against the victim, compelling her to touch his groin before kissing her on the face and sexually assaulting her.
The victim sustained marks on her neck as a result of the assault.
Two train passengers approached the unfolding scene and interfered upon observing the young woman’s discomfort.
Someone enquired about her well-being and whether Elemir Bandy had harmed her.
Upon her response, rail personnel were informed by the witnesses, and the incident was reported to the British Transport Police (BTP). Officials on the platform at Birmingham International station promptly apprehended Elemir Bandy.
In his initial police interview, he said he believed she was a prostitute, which prompted him to give her money; nevertheless, during his subsequent interrogation, he confessed, ‘I admit everything.’
In May at Birmingham Magistrates’ Court, Elemir Bandy, residing on Upper Normacot Road, Stoke on Trent, admitted guilt to Sexual Assault by Penetration and three charges of Sexual Assault.
Last week, a judge imposed a prison sentence consisting of a six-year incarceration term followed by an additional six-year extension.
Elemir Bandy was permanently registered on the Sex Offenders’ Register, prohibited from working with children and adults, and issued a sexual harm prevention order for a duration of 12 years.
Detective Sergeant Mike LeConte, the investigating officer for the case, stated: “This has exemplified remarkable teamwork – from the courage of the two bystanders who intervened and provided crucial evidence to the diligent efforts of officers who promptly secured evidence, ensuring that Elemir Bandy was charged and remanded the day following the incident.”
“My thoughts are with the victim; her courage in coming forward was pivotal in the case and has resulted in the removal of this predator from the community.”
“Sexual offences are a primary concern for us at BTP; every individual is entitled to travel safely and without apprehension.”
He implored all those who have encountered or observed a sexual offence on the railroads to report it to BTP by texting 61016 or calling 0800 40 50 40.
“We will consistently treat your report with gravity and ensure that offenders are prosecuted,” stated DS LeConte.
