A man who raped and sexually attacked a woman was found guilty when the victim filmed the incident.
A jury convicted David Pacera of four sexual crimes.
On January 3, the woman reported to police that Pacera, 42, had raped and sexually assaulted her on a Worthing property. He was arrested that day.
According to Sussex Police, the victim, who is legally entitled to lifelong confidentiality, was protected and supported by professional officers while an investigation was underway.
During the trial, the court heard a 90-minute audio recording that the victim made during the event on January 3, in which she said “no” several times.
Pacera, of no fixed address, was convicted of rape, attempted rape, digital penetration, and sexual assault on Friday, June 28, following a five-day trial at Chichester Crown Court.
He is scheduled to be sentenced on Friday, July 5, at Hove Crown Court.
Detective Police Constable Ellie Treagust complimented the woman for recording the attack and providing key evidence that assisted the police in obtaining the conviction.
She stated, “This was a monstrous attack on a vulnerable victim.”
“She reported the incident promptly and, despite the savagery of her treatment, had the foresight to record evidence at the time.
“I’d like to praise the victim for having the fortitude and determination to complete this investigation and appear in court for the trial. Her bravery has made Sussex a safer place for everybody.”
Sussex Police is urging victims of sexual offences to report it online or by calling 101.
“Always dial 999 in an emergency,” a force official said.
“You will be believed, will be supported and we will do everything we can to get you justice.”
