In 2019, the Offender Database reported that Daniel Reigate, then 38, of Ruddlemoor, St Austell, Cornwall, was sentenced at Truro Crown Court for the vile and predatory sexual assault of a young girl. Daniel Reigate was convicted after admitting to two counts of sexual assault involving the horrific touching of the victim’s intimate parts, breasts, and thighs. During the sickening abuse, Reigate attempted to manipulate the child by claiming he was “trying to make her feel nice,” a statement the court viewed as a calculated part of his depraved behaviour.
The investigation began after the victim bravely confided in her family, stating that Daniel Reigate “touched her in places she didn’t like.” A victim’s personal statement read in court detailed the profound anxiety and mental anguish the girl suffered in the lead-up to the trial, fearing she would have to give evidence against her abuser. Reigate initially denied the violent breaches of the girl’s safety, only summoning the “courage” to plead guilty on the very day the trial was scheduled to begin.
Judge Robert Linford noted that while Daniel Reigate had no previous convictions and had provided character references from people “at a loss” to explain his actions, the offences were far too severe for anything other than immediate custody. The judge emphasised that Reigate’s delay in admitting his vile actions had significantly exacerbated the victim’s trauma. Daniel Reigate was sentenced to 47 months in prison, with the judge acknowledging that his eventual expression of remorse appeared genuine but did not excuse the horrendous nature of the crimes.
As a result of his convictions for these serious sexual offences, Daniel Reigate was ordered to sign the Sex Offenders Register for life. He is managed under Multi-Agency Public Protection Arrangements (MAPPA) by Devon and Cornwall Police, remaining under supervision for the duration of his life. Any attempt to contact the victim or any breach of his strict registration requirements in St Austell, Ruddlemoor, or the wider Cornwall area will result in his immediate arrest and return to prison.
