An Paedophile from Edinburgh, Scotland, William Young, who transmitted explicit films of himself engaging in a sexual act to someone he believed to be a minor schoolgirl, was apprehended when he inadvertently disclosed his residential address to a group of individuals dedicated to exposing and apprehending child predators.

William Young initiated communication with a digital representation of a 12-year-old individual named Louise and transmitted repugnant visual content.

William Young, aged 55, also requested a meeting with the individual posing as a ‘kid’ for the purpose of engaging in sexual activities, and persistently solicited explicit photographs of the individual. The morally corrupt perpetrator was ultimately exposed when he was requested to provide his address for the purpose of receiving a Christmas card from the victim.

However, instead of engaging in conversation with a schoolgirl, William Young was really communicating with an individual from the Confronted and Caught paedophile hunter group, who later appeared at his previous residence in Tranent, East Lothian.

Subsequently, the group members reached out to the police, resulting in the arrest and charging of Young during the meeting held on December 9 of the previous year.

William Young admitted to two charges of soliciting a child to view explicit photos and videos, as well as attempting to engage in inappropriate communication with a minor. He entered his plea during his appearance at Edinburgh Sheriff Court on Tuesday.

Prosecutor Morgan Beattie informed the court that a grown-up member of the Confronted and Caught hunting group established a Facebook account using the identity of a 12-year-old named Louise Grey.

William Young promptly reached out to the individual’s profile and initiated a series of repulsive messages enquiring about their preference for older individuals and expressing a want to be intimate with them.

The communications also indicated his fondness for underage girls, and he persistently enquired about the child’s preferred sexual positions.

The explicit conversations transitioned to the messaging platform WhatsApp, where William Young, currently residing in The Pleasance, Edinburgh, exchanged messages with statements such as “I have affection for you while you are wearing your school uniform” and enquired whether she had witnessed the nudity of an adult male.

According to the court testimony, Young not only provided explicit photographs of his genitals, but also transmitted many films of himself engaging in sexual activity, despite being informed multiple times that the recipient was only 12 years old.

William Young thereafter expressed a desire to meet with the girl for a sexual encounter, unknowingly disclosing his address when the decoy, posing as the child, mentioned sending him a Christmas card.

Ms Beattie stated that members of the hunter club later attended at Young’s previous residence in Tranent to confront him on the internet communication.

He confessed to the hunting party, “I initially believed the young woman was of legal age, but later acknowledged that my actions were inappropriate.”

During his detention, the court was informed that he originally refuted any participation before subsequently admitting his culpability to the officers.

Sheriff Charles Walls temporarily added William Young to the sex offenders registry and postponed sentencing until next month pending social work reports and a risk assessment.

William Young admitted to the charge of exposing an adult to sexual photographs, as well as sending explicit images and films of himself masturbating at a specific location in Tranent over the period of November 13 to December 9 of the previous year.

In addition, he confessed to the offence of sending written and verbal messages, persistently enquiring about the child’s attire, frequently soliciting indecent photographs of the child, and enquiring if she would consent to engaging in sexual intercourse with him within the same time period.
