William Trevor Smith, a resident of Manchester, travelled a considerable distance to Gloucester to meet and sexually assault an individual he believed to be a 10-year-old child.
William Trevor Smith has communicated with officers from the South West Regional Organised Crime Unit (SWROCU), tasked with identifying and investigating dangerous offenders targeting minors online.
He was later charged with orchestrating the commission of a child sex crime and violating a sexual harm prevention order.
The case resulted from a collaboration between the SWROCU and Gloucestershire Constabulary’s Public Protection Unit, culminating in the imprisonment of a dangerous individual.
William Trevor Smith admitted guilt to the charges and was sentenced to seven years and four months at Gloucester Crown Court on Friday, December 9. He was classified as dangerous and received an extended licence, resulting in a total duration of 11 years.
He received a concurrent sentence of 29 months in prison for violating a sexual harm prevention order.
