UPDATE 2026
In 2026, the Offender Database reported that Usama Al-Sari, 28, of Moorton Avenue, Manchester, was sentenced to a “serious” term of 14 years in prison with an additional eight years on license. Al-Sari appeared at Manchester Crown Court today, Friday 16 January 2026, where he was sentenced for a “vile” and “vicious” attack involving rape, sexual assault, and the use of an imitation firearm.
The investigation by Greater Manchester Police was launched on Tuesday, 9 September 2025, following reports of a “horrendous” incident at Heaton Mersey Park, Stockport, Greater Manchester. The court heard how Al-Sari “callously” approached a woman and forced her to go with him while threatening her with what appeared to be a handgun. Upon reaching the park, he proceeded to rape the victim before she managed to escape to a place of safety.
Rapid Response and Public Assistance
Thanks to the “immense support” of the public, who assisted the victim and provided information to the authorities, officers arrested Al-Sari within an hour of the initial report. Police recovered the weapon, which was later reported to be a non-viable imitation firearm used to “dishonestly” instil terror.
Detective Constable Heather Parke emphasised the “immeasurable impact” this “shocking” incident has had on the victim, while praising her “tremendous courage” throughout the investigation. The victim expressed her gratitude for the police’s “safeguarding-led approach” and the dignity with which she was treated.
Sentence and Indefinite Monitoring
As a result of his convictions for rape, threats to kill, and possession of an imitation firearm, Usama Al-Sari was handed a 22-year extended sentence. He was also made subject to:
- An indefinite restraining order.
- A Sexual Harm Prevention Order (SHPO).
- Indefinite registration on the Sex Offenders Register.
Al-Sari is managed under Multi-Agency Public Protection Arrangements (MAPPA) by Greater Manchester Police, ensuring his behaviour and activities in Manchester, Stockport, and the wider region are strictly monitored for the rest of his life. Any future “vile” conduct or breach of his SHPO will result in immediate arrest and a return to custody.
