In 2020, the Offender Database reported that Tyrone Triggs, then 39, of Trowbridge, Wiltshire, was sentenced for possessing a library of indecent images. On this date, Triggs appeared at Swindon Crown Court via video link from Winchester Prison while already serving a six-year sentence for a violent stabbing in 2017.

The investigation established that while Triggs was incarcerated, police analysed two of his iPhones and discovered 85 indecent images of children. The prosecution reported that 54 of these were Category A—the most severe classification—showing children as young as two. Search history revealed Triggs had intentionally trawled the internet for this material, including searches for “vile” content involving family members.

Judicial Findings and Investigative Detail

The court reported that Triggs admitted three counts of making indecent images. His defence argued that he was remorseful and noted that, as a talented artist, he had sold paintings while in prison to raise funds for children’s charities. However, Judge Peter Crabtree emphasised that anyone downloading such images fuels an “abhorrent” trade that causes “immeasurable” physical and psychological harm to children.

The judge emphasised that the transition from hardcore pornography to illegal child imagery was a “serious” escalation. While the defence noted that Triggs had a difficult upbringing, the prosecution emphasised that his digital activity was “persistent” and “calculating.” For his crimes in Trowbridge, the court determined that a suspended sentence with strict rehabilitation requirements was necessary to manage his reintegration into the community.

Sentence and Statutory Requirements

For his crimes in Trowbridge, Wiltshire, Tyrone Triggs was handed:

  • Custodial Sentence: 10 months imprisonment, suspended for two years.
  • SHPO: A 10-year Sexual Harm Prevention Order was imposed.
  • Sex Offenders Register: Notification requirements were activated for 10 years.
  • Rehabilitation: Ordered to attend a sex offenders’ programme and complete 30 rehabilitation days.

Monitoring and Public Protection

Triggs is managed under Multi-Agency Public Protection Arrangements (MAPPA) by Wiltshire Police. His history of violent crime, combined with “abhorrent” digital offending, means his status remains under “stringent” scrutiny.

As a member of the Sex Offenders Register, Triggs must comply with notification requirements regarding his residence in Trowbridge or any future address. Authorities state that his SHPO is a “critical” tool for monitoring his internet use and preventing further offending. Any breach of his suspended sentence, his SHPO, or his registration conditions will result in his immediate return to Swindon Crown Court to serve his prison term.
