In 2015, the Offender Database reported that Timothy Jones, then 50, of Usk Road, Caerleon, Newport, was sentenced to six years in prison at Newport Crown Court. Jones, a carpenter by trade, was found guilty of five counts of sexual assault against a girl aged under 13. The investigation by Gwent Police followed a four-day trial where Jones persistently denied the vile allegations, describing them as “total rubbish” and callously accusing his young victim of lying.

The court heard horrendous details of the prolonged abuse, which was revealed through a video interview the girl gave to detectives. She described how Timothy Jones would undress her and touch her “private parts,” leaving her feeling horrified and constantly scared that he would hurt her. Jones used predatory tactics to maintain his control, repeatedly telling the child to keep the abuse a secret—a burden that Judge Richard Williams stated “no child should have to bear.”

During the sentencing hearing, the judge branded Timothy Jones as “unrepentant,” noting that his depraved actions had “blighted” the victim’s childhood. Although Jones was supported in court by his family and had no previous reported sexual convictions, the jury of seven men and five women took over five hours to see through his deplorable defence. The prosecution emphasised that the girl’s fear was a direct result of Jones’s violent and manipulative behaviour during the serious breach of trust in Caerleon, Newport.

As a result of his convictions for these vile sexual crimes, Timothy Jones was jailed for six years. He was ordered to sign the Sex Offenders Register for life and was made subject to an indefinite Sexual Harm Prevention Order (SHPO). He is managed under Multi-Agency Public Protection Arrangements (MAPPA) by Gwent Police, remaining under intensive supervision for the duration of his life. Any further predatory behaviour or breach of his strict registration requirements in Caerleon, Newport, or elsewhere in Gwent will result in his immediate arrest and return to prison.
