On Monday, 19 January 2026, the Offender Database reported that Steven Field, 52, of Marks Court, Southend, Essex, was jailed for a total of eight years following a series of vile sexual crimes. Field appeared at Basildon Crown Court, where he was sentenced for the sexual assault of a young child and for amassing a massive library of child abuse material.
The investigation by Essex Police began after authorities were alerted to concerning activity on his digital devices. A search of his home in Southend led to the seizure of equipment that callously revealed a hoard of over 125,000 indecent images and videos. The analysis also uncovered internet searches and accounts that linked him directly to the predatory material.
Vile Abuse and Category A Material
The evidence found on Field’s devices was horrific. Analysts discovered thousands of files depicting the sexual torture and rape of young children. The haul included:
- Category A: 2,491 photos and 228 videos (the most serious and vile level of abuse).
- Category B: 3,087 photos and 158 videos.
- Category C: 118,633 photos and 496 videos.
Most disturbingly, some of the images showed Field himself with a child. By working closely with the victim and their family, detectives were able to prove that Field had sexually assaulted the child under the age of 13 by penetration.
Sentence and Denials
Field dishonestly denied the charge of sexual assault by penetration, forcing a trial at Basildon Crown Court in October 2025. However, the jury saw through his lies and found him guilty. He had previously admitted to one count of taking an indecent photo and three counts of making indecent or pseudo-photographs of a child.
For these serious and evil crimes, Steven Field was:
- Jailed for seven years, with a further year on licence.
- Ordered to sign the Sex Offenders Register for life.
- Subjected to a Sexual Harm Prevention Order (SHPO) with strict restrictions.
Monitoring and Public Protection
Field is managed under Multi-Agency Public Protection Arrangements (MAPPA) by Essex Police. His status on the Sex Offenders Register ensures that his residency in Southend and any future digital behaviour will be under serious lifelong scrutiny.
The SHPO prohibits him from any unsupervised contact with children or from possessing unmonitored internet-enabled devices. Any attempt to dishonestly bypass these safeguards or re-engage in vile behaviour will result in his immediate arrest and return to prison.
