A Paedophile from Swansea, Stephen Hindley, has been incarcerated after admitting to nine sexual offences against a single victim, commencing when the victim was a minor.

The victim revealed to a family member that 58-year-old Stephen Hindley had perpetrated a series of sexual attacks against them from ages nine to 22. Allegations of offences were made regarding incidents occurring in Mayhill, Plasmarl, and Manselton from the mid-1990s to the mid-2000s.

Stephen Hindley did not attend a hearing on these charges in May 2013, prompting the issuance of an arrest warrant by the Courts. He thereafter remained at large, employing strategies like as altering his name to elude law enforcement, until July 2024, when he was apprehended in Llanelli after being observed by an off-duty police officer.

Stephen Hindley admitted guilt to all allegations except for two, which were to child sexual abuse and acts against an adult.

Stephen Hindley has received a twenty-year prison sentence. He will remain on the sex offenders register for life and is subject to an indefinite restraining order prohibiting contact with the victim.

Detective Chief Inspector Chris Evans said:

“Stephen Hindley is a man who committed horrendous crimes against his victim, from a small child into adulthood.

“Stephen Hindley’s sex offences spanned a period of over a decade. He then spent a similar amount of time trying to evade the law and the repercussions of his actions. In the end, officers caught up with him.

“If the terrible ordeal the victim had been through for most of their childhood wasn’t bad enough, the agonising wait to see their abuser come to justice would have multiplied this an unfathomable amount.

“We are very pleased that Stephen Hindley was ultimately returned to custody and is now embarking on a significant jail term. We hope that, now, his brave victim can finally start to come to terms with what has happened to them and feels safer that he is no longer on the run.”
