A Rapist from Bury St Edmunds, Stephen Brazier, has received an extended sentence of 19 years for sexual crimes and controlling or coercive behaviour.
Stephen Brazier, 53, residing at Harland Court in Bury St Edmunds, was convicted by a unanimous jury of two charges of rape and one count of controlling or coercive behaviour after a six-day trial.
The offences pertain to a single victim.
The court was informed that Stephen Brazier would incessantly message the victim. Stephen Brazier harboured suspicions regarding her associations with other men, her social media connections, and would confront her actions and behaviour with aggression.
Subsequent to his original arrest for rape, Stephen Brazier violated his bail conditions by reaching out to the victim to threaten her and coerce her into retracting her testimony. During that time, he sexually assaulted her once again.
He refuted the allegations, asserting that the sexual encounter was consensual and attributing responsibility for his incarceration to the victim.
Stephen Brazier appeared at Cambridge Crown Court on Friday, 26 September, where he received an enhanced sentence of 19 years, comprising 16 years of jail and an additional three years on licence.
Extended sentences are imposed on those convicted of significant violent or sexual offences, necessitating an additional time of post-release supervision to safeguard the public.
Stephen Brazier was additionally subjected to a Sexual Harm Prevention Order.
