Shaun Baker, a Bromley theatre teacher and Pembury Paedophile, has been sentenced to prison for raping and sexually abusing a student beginning at the age of 12.

Shaun Baker was as the head of theatre at Ravens Wood School in Keston when he recruited a pupil, coerced him into sexual contact, and raped him on many occasions.

The violations commenced in the late 2000s, although Shaun Baker persisted in teaching at multiple schools until his apprehension in 2021.

On Friday, May 9, a jury convicted Shaun Baker of 14 offences, including three counts of rape, after a two-week trial at Croydon Crown Court.

Shaun Baker, 50, from Ridgeway in Pembury, Kent, received a 17-year prison sentence on Monday.

The court was informed that Baker, a “popular and respected” teacher in his 30s, perpetrated the assault.

It began with Shaun Baker exposing himself to the “confused, embarrassed and reluctant” victim.

Shaun Baker later made the boy watch pornography, made him touch him sexually, and orally raped him on three occasions.

Prosecutor Tara McCarthy read a statement from the victim which described how Shaun Baker abused his position of trust as a teacher at the all boys school to systematically abuse him.

He said he suffered “vivid nightmares revisiting the abuse”, adding that the abuse caused him to distrust himself and others.

“I will carry this with me for the rest of my life. The abuse I suffered changed me. It took away my innocence, altered the course of my adolescence and impacted my adult life in many ways,” said the statement.

“This abuse changed my past, but it will not shape my future. I am determined to live my life on my own terms with courage and dignity.”

Sadaf Etemadi, defending, argued that Baker had been a positive influence on pupils throughout his career except in the circumstances of this offending.

She said: “Once he decided to embark on becoming a teacher he dedicated his life to teaching and the advancement of his pupils.

“Mr Shaun Baker was suspended from teaching from his arrest and will receive a ban from teaching. In my submission that will be the greatest punishment he will receive.

“He will receive a very lengthy custodial sentence today but there will be a time when he is released but he knows he can never go back to teaching.”

Shaun Baker continues to enjoy the support of his paedophile friends and family including his paedophile sympathising partner who he met just one month before he was arrested for these offences in 2021, Ms Etemadi said.

Judge Peter Gower KC sentenced Shaun Baker to 17 years in prison, telling him he had “exploited and groomed” the boy.
