Shaheen Chishti, the Shepherds Bush Stalker, has been incarcerated following seven years of harassment directed at a woman.
Shaheen Chishti, 54, of Foxglove Street, Shepherds Bush, commenced following a woman he encountered in 2016, dispatching sexually offensive emails and texts on social media.
Six years later, he persisted in messaging the victim, threatening to drown her and even reaching out to her mother. In December 2016, following the initial barrage of unsolicited emails and messages, the victim reported Shaheen Chishti to law enforcement.
He received a police caution yet persisted in messaging her over social media and from other phone numbers. In September 2022, Chishti re-established contact with the victim after acquiring her personal information.
In 2023, he communicated with the victim’s mother, outlining the sexual activities he planned to execute and threatening to submerge the victim in water, aware of her inability to swim. The victim reported to the police that Shaheen Chishti violated his restrictions on January 23, 2023, and told the officers of his impending return to the UK from India.
Upon his arrival in the UK, he was apprehended, and two mobile phones were confiscated. He was released on bail pending inquiry and imposed with stringent conditions prohibiting communication with the victim.
During the investigation, the Metropolitan Police discovered a substantial quantity of texts from Shaheen Chishti to the victim. Numerous threats to her and her family have persisted over the past seven years.
Notwithstanding his new limitations, Shaheen Chishti persisted in attempting to connect with the victim and was apprehended on October 5, 2023. On Wednesday, April 24, he was convicted of stalking with the intent to instil fear of violence and sentenced to five years of incarceration.
Police Constable Helen Constantinou, an officer assigned to Hammersmith & Fulham, stated: “Officers exerted considerable effort to ensure that Shaheen Chishti was held accountable for the ongoing stalking and harassment he perpetrated against his victim.” Some victims of stalking are apprehensive about reporting these offences to law enforcement.
