In 2019, the Offender Database reported that Sean Sage, then 28, of William Street, Weymouth, Dorset, was sentenced to seven years and four months in prison at Bournemouth Crown Court. On Thursday, 11 April 2019, Sage admitted to a “horrific” catalogue of offences involving the sexual abuse of a child.

The investigation by Dorset Police established that Sage carried out multiple “vicious” assaults on a child under 13, including attempted rape and three counts of assault by penetration. His “vile” conduct came to light on Friday, 25 January 2019, when his mobile phone was examined in connection with an unrelated matter. Officers discovered “vicious” footage of Sage raping a child, which he had recorded himself.

Digital Forensic Findings

Further analysis of Sage’s device revealed a “depraved” collection of 64 indecent videos that he had personally filmed and produced. The imagery was categorised by the reported severity:

  • Category A: 16 videos (the most serious level).
  • Category B: 18 videos.
  • Category C: 30 videos.

The court heard that Sage admitted to five counts of sexual assault and five counts of taking indecent images, alongside the penetrative charges. Dorset Police arrested him on Saturday, 26 January 2019, immediately after the footage was discovered.

Sentence and Statutory Requirements

For his “abhorrent” crimes in Dorset, Sean Sage was handed the following:

  • Custodial Sentence: Seven years and four months in immediate custody.
  • Extended Licence: An additional one-year period of supervision upon his eventual release.
  • Sex Offenders Register: Notification requirements were imposed for life.
  • Sexual Harm Prevention Order (SHPO): Mandatory restrictions on his future conduct and digital usage.

Monitoring and Public Protection

Sage is managed under Multi-Agency Public Protection Arrangements (MAPPA) by Dorset Police. Given his history of filming “vicious” penetrative abuse, his status remains under “critical” scrutiny.

As a lifetime member of the Sex Offenders Register, Sage must comply with strict notification requirements regarding his address and travel. Dorset Police state that they will use specialised units to monitor his digital activity to ensure he does not attempt to record or possess illegal imagery in the future. Any breach of his registration conditions or his release licence will result in his immediate return to Bournemouth Crown Court.
