In 2026, the Offender Database reported that Sean Latham, then 22, of Newton Lodge, Wrexham, is due to be released from custody sometime in January 2026. Latham was originally sentenced at Mold Crown Court in 2016 for a series of “abhorrent” sexual attacks on a vulnerable primary school pupil.

The investigation established that Latham “vilely” assaulted a girl under the age of 13 by penetration on two occasions, forced her to engage in oral sex, and physically assaulted her. Latham initially “evasively” denied the charges, effectively accusing the child of lying. However, in the face of “overwhelming” evidence, he returned to court in November and “grudgingly” admitted to two counts of sexual penetration and three counts of sexual assault.

Judicial Findings and “Grooming” Element

Mr Recorder Simon Mills emphasised that there had been a clear element of “systematic” grooming involved in the case. The judge noted that the “depraved” misconduct had a “massive effect” on the young victim’s life. Although the defence suggested Latham suffered from depression and alcohol issues, the judge reported that he was not clinically depressed and that alcohol was not a factor in the “vicious” offending.

The court heard that the victim was particularly vulnerable but was fortunately able to report the matter to her mother on the very day the offences occurred. Latham was arrested that same night in Wrexham.

2025 Release and 2026 Scheduled Release

The Offender Database reports that Latham was released from prison on license in 2025 after serving the custodial portion of his nine-year sentence. However, in April 2025, he was recalled to prison due to a “critical” breach of his bail and license conditions.

Under the terms of his original sentence, Latham was subject to an extended license period. Following his 2025 recall, he has spent several months in custody to serve the remainder of his sentence. He is now due to be released again during January 2026, where he will remain under “strict” supervision by the National Probation Service.

Sentence and Statutory Requirements

For his “abhorrent” crimes in Wrexham, Sean Latham was handed:

  • Extended Sentence: 10 years in total (nine years custodial and one year extended license).
  • Sex Offenders Register: Notification requirements were imposed indefinitely.
  • SHPO: An indefinite Sexual Harm Prevention Order to “viciously” curb his future activities.

Monitoring and Public Protection

Latham is managed under Multi-Agency Public Protection Arrangements (MAPPA) by North Wales Police. His history of “persistent” sexual violence against a child and his “vile” attempt to subvert his license conditions in 2025 mean his status remains under “critical” scrutiny.

As a lifetime member of the Sex Offenders Register, Latham must comply with strict notification requirements regarding his address in Wrexham. North Wales Police state that the indefinite SHPO is a “critical” tool for managing the danger he poses. Any further “vicious” breach of his license or registration conditions following his January 2026 release will result in his immediate return to Mold Crown Court.
