In 2022, Scott Beattie, the Peterlee Rapist, who attempted to sexually assault a woman while she slept at her residence, was incarcerated.
In July 2021, Scott Beattie’s victim awoke to discover him in her bed, removing her pants and attempting to assault her sexually.
She commanded Scott Beattie to depart before courageously notifying the police of her experience.
A 48-year-old man from Peterlee was subsequently apprehended by law enforcement and appeared at Durham Crown Court on Friday, December 2, where he was convicted of attempted rape.
Scott Beattie was incarcerated for four years and nine months and issued a 10-year restraining order.
Detective Constable Ben Slater of Durham Constabulary commended Scott Beattie’s victim for her courage in reporting him to law enforcement.
He stated: “The victim was assaulted while she slept in her bed at home, a place where she should have felt secure. We are gratified that Scott Beattie is now incarcerated, eliminating any threat he posed to other women.”
“I wish to express my gratitude to the victim in this case for her courage in reporting Scott Beattie to the authorities and her willingness to testify against him.”
“Individuals who have experienced a sexual offence can be assured that we will conduct a thorough investigation if they report the incident to us.”
