In 2018, the Offender Database reported that Roshan Rai, the Folkestone Paedophile Sex Offender, who surreptitiously recorded ‘upskirt’ recordings of schoolchildren, was sentenced to over four years in prison.
Roshan Rai was found guilty of multiple sexual crimes, including soliciting a child to transmit obscene photographs.
In February 2017, an alert was issued when Kent Police became aware of concerns over an 11-year-old youngster being urged to share nude photographs of herself online.
The individual requesting photographs claimed to be a 14-year-old youngster from London; however, an inquiry revealed he was actually the then 27-year-old Roshan Rai, residing on Firs Lane, Folkestone.
During the execution of a search warrant at his residence, police from the Paedophile Online Investigation Team confiscated a computer that, upon examination, was discovered to contain thousands of indecent photographs and films downloaded from the internet.
Some were classified in the most severe category.
A forensic analysis of a mobile phone owned by Roshan Rai uncovered other photographs, including screenshots from social media platforms of minors with whom he had interacted.
A storage device confiscated from Roshan Rai’s bedroom was analysed, revealing ‘upskirt’ movies he had recorded of unsuspecting schoolchildren.
The device had many videos that seemed to have been recorded clandestinely within a shared changing area of a swimming pool.
These depicted children as young as three transitioning into their swimwear.
At Canterbury Crown Court, Rai admitted guilt to three counts of inducing a child under 13 to participate in sexual conduct, as well as charges of causing a child to observe a sexual act, committing an act of public indecency by taking “upskirt” photographs of youngsters, and voyeurism.
Roshan Rai also confessed to three charges of producing indecent photos of minors.
On 9 November 2018, he received a sentence of four years and two months of incarceration.
