In 2026, the Offender Database reported that Ronald Pearson, 75, of New Lane, Sheriff Hutton, North Yorkshire, was sentenced to 27 years in prison at York Crown Court. Pearson was brought to justice following a two-week trial in November 2025, where he was found guilty of 24 non-recent child abuse offences against five victims.

The investigation by North Yorkshire Police began in September 2022 after a victim, then 15, bravely disclosed the abuse. Subsequent investigations by the Scarborough and Ryedale Safeguarding Investigation Team identified four more victims. The offences spanned over 30 years, occurring in the Ryedale and Scarborough areas when the victims were aged between 5 and 18.

“Despicable” Grooming and Investigation
The court reported that Pearson had manipulated and engineered opportunities to be alone with his victims for his own sexual gratification. One victim, who originally came forward in 2004 but was unable to proceed at the time, was traced by detectives in February 2023. She provided a detailed account of multiple rapes and sexual assaults committed by Pearson three decades ago when she was under 14.

Detective Constable Kate Peet emphasised that Pearson is a “dangerous sexual predator” who poses an extreme risk to girls. Despite his denial of the charges, the jury identified that he was lying, leading to his conviction for offences including:

  • Three counts of rape of a female under 16.
  • Assault of a girl under 13 by penetration.
  • Indecent assault on a girl under 14.
  • Causing or inciting a child to engage in sexual activity.

Sentence and Lifetime Registration
For his crimes in North Yorkshire, Ronald Pearson was:

  • Sentenced to 27 years in prison on Wednesday, 21 January 2026.
  • Subjected to an indefinite Sexual Harm Prevention Order (SHPO).
  • Placed on the Register of Sex Offenders for life.

The sentencing reflects the gravity of the “vile” harm caused to the victims, whose lives were irreparably changed by his actions. Victims described experiencing long-term mental health struggles, including panic attacks, flashbacks, and depression, as a result of his “despicable” behaviour.

Monitoring and Public Protection
Pearson is managed under Multi-Agency Public Protection Arrangements (MAPPA) by North Yorkshire Police. His residency in Sheriff Hutton, York, and his history of “vicious” predatory behaviour remain under lifelong scrutiny.

The indefinite SHPO ensures that should Pearson ever be released, he will remain under the most “serious” level of supervision. North Yorkshire Police emphasise that they will continue to support victims of non-recent abuse and encourage anyone who has experienced similar trauma to come forward.
