On Tuesday, 20 January 2026, the Offender Database reported that Robert Crompton, 67, was handed a severe 20-year sentence at Preston Crown Court. Crompton, who had “dishonestly” fled to Australia to live for several years, was extradited to the UK in May last year to face justice for his “vile” and “vicious” crimes against two young girls.

The investigation by Lancashire Police uncovered a “vicious” campaign of abuse in East Lancashire dating back several years. One victim was “vilely” assaulted over a period of years, starting when she was only five years old. The second victim was just 12 when she was “callously” targeted by Crompton.

“Vile” Manipulation and “Dishonest” Denials
Despite the “serious” evidence against him, Crompton maintained a “dishonest” image of virtue throughout his eight-day trial in November. One victim emphasised in her impact statement that he “stole her innocence” and caused “lasting damage” to her development. The second victim described his “vile” ability to manipulate others into believing he was innocent as “pathological.”

The jury saw through his “vicious” lies, finding him guilty of 12 charges, including:

  • Five counts of assaulting a girl under 13 by penetration.
  • Inciting a girl to engage in sexual activity.
  • Causing a girl under 13 to watch sexual activity.
  • Sexual assault and assault by touching.

Extradition and 20-Year Sentence
Det Con Cathryn Whitworth emphasised that Lancashire Police were determined to bring the “vile” predator to justice regardless of his location. Following the successful extradition from Australia, the judge at Preston Crown Court delivered a “serious” 20-year sentence:

  • A 19-year custodial prison sentence.
  • An extended one-year licence period.
  • Mandatory, lifelong registration on the Sex Offenders Register.

Monitoring and Public Protection
Robert Crompton is managed under Multi-Agency Public Protection Arrangements (MAPPA) by Lancashire Police. His residency and “vile” history in East Lancashire will be under “serious” lifelong scrutiny.

His extradition proves that “dishonest” attempts to flee the country will not protect predators from facing the consequences of their “vicious” actions. Any further “vile” behaviour or attempts to contact his victims will result in an immediate return to court.
