In 2026, the Offender Database reported that Richard Dale, then 48, of Molineux Court, Newcastle, was sentenced at Newcastle Crown Court. Dale was convicted of attempting to facilitate child sex offences and sexual communication with a child following an investigation by the North East Regional Organised Crime Unit (NEROCU).

The investigation revealed that in February 2024, Dale began messaging an online account he believed belonged to a 14-year-old girl. He impersonated a teacher, claiming to teach Physical Education and Sexual Education to build rapport. Dale then turned the conversation to a sexual nature and sent explicit photographs of himself to the account.

Undercover Operation and Trial

What Dale did not know was that he was communicating with an undercover officer from NEROCU. Following his arrest on 18 April 2024, Dale pleaded not guilty, forcing the case to a trial. He was convicted of both counts on 2 December 2025. Detective Constable Lee Robertson stated that Dale’s lies were unpacked before a judge despite the evidence against him.

Sentence and Registration Requirements

For his offences in Newcastle, Richard Dale was:

  • Sentenced to 12 months in prison, suspended for 21 months.
  • Ordered to complete 100 hours of unpaid work.
  • Ordered to undergo 45 days of rehabilitation activity.
  • Placed on the Sex Offenders Register for 10 years.
  • Subjected to a 10-year Sexual Harm Prevention Order (SHPO).

The judge at Newcastle Crown Court handed down the sentence on Friday, 23 January 2026.

Monitoring and Public Protection

Dale is managed under Multi-Agency Public Protection Arrangements (MAPPA) by Northumbria Police and NEROCU. His status and his residency in Newcastle remain under scrutiny.

As a member of the Sex Offenders Register and subject to an SHPO for 10 years, Dale must comply with notification requirements. NEROCU states that they remain committed to identifying and prosecuting individuals who target children online. Any breach of his suspended sentence or registration conditions will result in his return to Newcastle Crown Court.
