Peter Woolner, the Normanton Paedophile, was convicted of historical sexual offences against a minor, perpetrated between 2001 and 2007, when she was between eight and fourteen years of age.
In 2021, the girl courageously stepped forward, leading to the arrest and interrogation of Peter Woolner, 74.
He was tried at Leeds Crown Court in April and was convicted of two counts of child indecency, two acts of indecent assault, and three counts of possessing indecent photos of a child. Peter Woolner, residing in Fairway, Normanton, persistently refuted the allegations.
On Friday, May 30, Peter Woolner received a seven-year prison sentence and was issued a Sexual Harm Prevention Order.
Detective Inspector Mark Tester of the Leeds District Safeguarding Unit stated: “I commend the victim for her bravery in reporting the egregious abuse she endured.”
“Peter Woolner targeted a vulnerable child and it is right that he is now behind bars for his crimes. I hope his sentencing provides some sense of justice for the victim and allows her to begin to move forward with her life.
“I would encourage any victim of unreported sexual offences, whether recent or non-recent, to please come forward and contact police.
“We have specialist officers who will handle all reports with sensitivity and support you throughout the justice process. We will thoroughly investigate all enquiries to bring perpetrators to justice.”
