A Sussex Police pervert constable, Peter May, has been dismissed for attempting to initiate a sexual relationship with a woman under investigation for driving under the influence of alcohol and drugs.
PC According to Sussex Police, Peter May contacted the woman through WhatsApp to enquire whether she preferred to stay at his residence or to go out for a drink together.
A two-day misconduct tribunal determined that the police constable’s conduct constituted gross misconduct, resulting in his immediate dismissal.
Detective Chief Inspector Sarah Gillies characterised it as an “unacceptable betrayal of trust” and an exploitation of a position of authority.
Sussex Police stated that Mr Peter May was driven by “a desire to engage in a sexual and inappropriate relationship” with the woman.
He was determined to have violated the rules of professional conduct, specifically a deficiency in integrity.
Detective Chief Inspector Gillies stated: “This constituted an intolerable breach of the trust bestowed upon this officer by a member of the public.”
PC Peter May misused his authority and has justly confronted the repercussions of his conduct.
“We will persist in our efforts to enhance policing standards in Sussex to guarantee the public receives the service they merit.”
