A jury has failed to reach a decision in the case involving, the alleged Bishop’s Stortford Paedophile, Neil Shoebridge, a former Hertfordshire Constabulary officer accused of sexual offences against a child and misconduct in public office.

Neil Shoebridge, 47, of Northolt Avenue, Bishop’s Stortford, has pleaded not guilty to three charges of gross indecency with a girl under the age of 16, occurring between 27 December 2002 and 3 January 2003.

Neil Shoebridge also refuted allegations of intentionally disregarding his duties and engaging in wilful misconduct while serving in a public office during the same period. Neil Shoebridge entered a plea of not guilty to all counts during a prior hearing at Cambridge Crown Court on Wednesday, April 30.

The trial commenced in Cambridge Crown Court on Monday, 4 August, and jurors began their deliberations on Friday, 8 August.

They persisted in their discussions on Monday, August 11, and were unable to arrive at a verdict yesterday afternoon. The court dismissed the jury, expressing gratitude for their work.

The Crown Prosecution Service has two weeks to determine whether it will pursue a retrial.
