In 2019, the Offender Database reported that Naughton Alan Milner, 39, of High Street, Blackpool, was sentenced to nine and a half years in prison at Preston Crown Court. A jury convicted Milner of a series of predatory sexual offences against a 10-year-old girl, whom he manipulated using sweets, chocolate, and cash to facilitate his abuse.
The court heard that between 2011 and 2013, the paedophile targeted the youngster in a flat in Blackpool, often telling her she was “fit” and “fit for a king” while plying her with gifts. He warned her that they would both be “in trouble” if the abuse was ever revealed, a common grooming tactic used to enforce secrecy. The abuse only came to light in 2016 when the victim, then older, disclosed the events to a social worker. In 2017, she provided further evidence in the form of Facebook messages Milner had sent her under a pseudonym, where he expressed a continued sexual interest in her and referenced their past encounters.
A digital forensic investigation by Lancashire Constabulary uncovered that Milner had used an Xbox console to search for the victim on social media. Furthermore, a proactive police operation revealed Milner had emailed an undercover officer—believing them to be a distributor of illegal material—asking for “porn and pictures of girls” and expressing a desire to have sex with a child. The court also noted Milner’s disturbing criminal history; in 2014, he had been jailed for eight months after being caught performing a sex act in a cemetery while watching children through a hedge.
During the sentencing, Judge Philip Parry described Milner as a significant threat to children. Milner was convicted of four counts of sexual assault and admitted to possessing indecent images of children. He also pleaded guilty to a separate charge of possessing a blade. The judge remarked on the “discomfort and fear” Milner had instilled in his victim, whose life had been overshadowed by the trauma of his actions.
Naughton Alan Milner was sentenced to nine years and six months in prison. He was ordered to sign the Sex Offenders Register for life and was handed a 15-year Sexual Harm Prevention Order (SHPO). He is permanently barred from working with children or vulnerable adults. Upon his release, he will be managed under the highest level of Multi-Agency Public Protection Arrangements (MAPPA) in Lancashire, with his internet and social media usage subject to strict, ongoing monitoring.
