Sparkhill Paedophile Muhammed Irfan was sentenced to 19 years in prison for the systematic sexual abuse and rape of a minor over a period of three years.

A 35-year-old resident, Muhammed Irfan, of Gough Road, Sparkhill, was convicted of raping a child under the age of 13 following a five-day trial at Birmingham Crown Court.

He received a sentence on September 18, including 19 years of incarceration followed by an extended licence period of one year.

Muhammed Irfan will be ineligible to petition for parole for a minimum of ten years and will stay on the sex offenders registry indefinitely.

Muhammed Irfan assaulted the girl and issued threats against her family should she disclose the incidents, however the young girl summoned the fortitude to report the abuse, prompting a police inquiry.

The jury at court was informed about the impact of the abuse by Muhammed Irfan on the schoolgirl.

In a statement, she remarked: “During my childhood and schooling, I was what I would characterise as a mischievous child.” I would engage in physical altercations with boys, exhibit disruptive behaviour, respond defiantly to teachers, and refrain from attending classes. I have only now attained the maturity to comprehend the reasons for my past behaviour.

I am grateful that others have acknowledged the assault I endured. While I find solace in his impending incarceration, I remain uncertain if I will ever be able to transcend the events that have transpired in my life.

Detective Constable Tom Parkes, from the Public Protection Unit, stated: “This young girl ought to have been relishing her school years and preparing for adulthood.” The abuse she endured has evidently resulted in enduring anguish, and I hope this punishment aids in her recovery process.

We collaborate with specialised authorities that provide assistance from the initial report of a crime, throughout the investigation and trial phases, and beyond. I appreciate her courage in voicing her concerns and wish her success in the future.
