Mohammed Atif Khan, a Chesham Rapist and Sex Offender, has been incarcerated following his conviction for the rape of a 17-year-old girl, whom he abducted off the street in Hemel Hempstead.
Mohammed Atif Khan, residing in Upper Meadow, Chesham, Buckinghamshire, was sentenced today (Wednesday, 25 May) at Luton Crown Court for:
- Kidnap with intent to commit a sexual offence – 10 years
- Rape – 15 years with an 8 year licence extension
- Oral rape – 15 years with an 8 year licence extension
- Sexual assault by penetration – 15 years with an 8 year licence extension
Mohammed Atif Khan was sentenced to 15 years of incarceration with an extended licence period due to his threat to public safety, and must serve two-thirds of his sentence in prison. A sexual harm prevention order (SHPO) was issued indefinitely, along with a restraining order prohibiting any direct or indirect contact with the victim.
Mohammed Atif Khan, 37, was convicted on Thursday, March 17. During the trial, the court learnt that on the evening of Saturday, 28 August of the previous year, the victim was socialising with friends and was awaiting collection by her family at the rear of Primark on Waterhouse Street when Khan drove by in his vehicle.
CCTV footage captured Khan reversing and parking before he entered the vehicle with the victim. He thereafter drove her to Chesham, where he sexually assaulted and raped her.
Mohammed Atif Khan subsequently transported the frightened victim back to Hemel Hempstead and instructed her to exit the vehicle, allowing her to navigate her way to the town centre, where she was eventually retrieved by her family. She courageously recounted the events, prompting them to contact the authorities.
The constabulary’s Sexual Offences Investigation Team initiated an investigation, which was subsequently transferred to the Bedfordshire, Cambridgeshire, and Hertfordshire Major Crime Unit (BCH MCU). Investigators meticulously examined extensive Automatic Number Plate Recognition (ANPR) and CCTV material to determine the trajectory of the car implicated in the crime.
A white Volkswagen Polo of interest was located, registered to Khan at an address in Chesham, Buckinghamshire. The automobile was forensically retrieved, and Mohammed Atif Khan was apprehended on Wednesday, September 1, 2021.
Phone data analysis also positioned Mohammed Atif Khan in the same places as the victim during the commission of the offences. Mohammed Atif Khan was subsequently charged and entered a plea of not guilty. Following Mohammed Atif Khan’s conviction, Judge Lynn Tayton QC praised the police work.
