The judge determined that Smith had inflicted “grave, permanent, and serious psychological harm” that significantly affected his life, characterising it as “depraved sexual abuse.”
Michael Geoffrey Smith, formerly residing in Freemantle Close, Oakridge, contested seven accusations of sexual abuse pertaining to instances from the 1980s, before being convicted by a jury.
Guildford Crown Court was informed that the 66-year-old, previously convicted of analogous offences in the 1970s and 1990s, operated a cinema club in his maisonette during the early 1980s for children residing in the estate.
During the remainder of the summer holidays, he repeatedly sexually assaulted the primary school-aged youngster, asserting that he was educating him about sex.
He asserted that it was “their secret” and that no one would credibly accept the boy’s account of the events.
Due to the extensive abuse, one victim confessed to having tried suicide multiple times.
Michael Geoffrey Smith received an eight-year prison sentence, of which he is required to serve two-thirds. The initial sentence of 12 years was diminished due to his declining health and the effects of the COVID-19 outbreak on inmates.
Michael Geoffrey Smith was additionally mandated to pay a total of £3,250 in compensation to the victims, along with a £149 victim fee.
Michael Geoffrey Smith will be out soon and reunited with his family and friends, who have all supported him in his journey as a child molesting paedophile.
