A Mildenhall Paedophile, Maurice Bowers, has been found guilty of sexually assaulting two children while residing in Collier Row throughout the 1970s and 1980s.
Maurice Bowers, 68, from Mildenhall, Suffolk, was convicted of four charges of child indecency and two counts of indecent assault.
Maurice Bowers coerced two girls into participating in a game termed “squash,” during which they would sit on him, frequently in a state of partial undress.
At his trial at Snaresbrook Crown Court, prosecutor Julie Whitby told the jury: “The Crown say this was not just a game, Maurice Bowers was inciting the girls to act out the squashing for his gratification.”
Ms Whitby said Bowers told each of the girls it was “their secret” and not to tell anyone about.
The alleged abuse took place independently of one another but both victims gave “very consistent” descriptions of Maurice Bowers’ behaviour, Ms Whitby said.
Decades later, when the incident was reported to the authorities, Maurice Bowers visited a police station to read a written statement.
His trial commenced on July 14, and he initially confronted 17 accusations.
During the trial, three counts were dismissed as it was determined they could not result in a guilty plea, according to the Metropolitan Police.
On Thursday, July 31, the jury rendered a decision declaring Maurice Bowers guilty of six out of the remaining fourteen offences.
Maurice Bowers is scheduled for sentencing in October.
