In 2019, the Offender Database reported that Martyn Rees, then 37, of Dimsdale Parade West, Wolstanton, Staffordshire, was convicted of 14 “horrific” sex offences at Stoke-on-Trent Crown Court. Rees, a driving instructor, utilised his “trusted” position to target “vulnerable” victims, including a 14-year-old girl. The investigation by Staffordshire Police revealed that Rees carried out a “serious” campaign of abuse across Newcastle-under-Lyme, Cheshire, and Manchester between February 2015 and March 2018.

The court heard horrendous details of Rees’s “vicious” behaviour, including the “vile” rape of a 14-year-old girl whom he picked up in a Stoke-on-Trent street and drove around the city throughout the night. He “callously” raped her in the back of his car at an industrial estate. The prosecution emphasised that Rees also targeted one of his 17-year-old pupils and was found with “sickening” footage on his phone showing him sexually assaulting an unconscious teenager.

Alongside the rape conviction, Rees was found guilty of “depraved” acts, including sexual assault by penetration, attempted sexual assault, and making “vile” indecent photographs of children. He also admitted to possessing “vicious” extreme pornographic images. The judge emphasised that a “serious” assessment would be made to determine if Rees met the criteria of a dangerous offender, which would result in an extended sentence to protect the public from his “predatory” and “vile” behaviour.

As a result of his convictions for rape and multiple child sex offences, Martyn Rees was remanded in custody and ordered to sign the Sex Offenders Register for life. He is managed under Multi-Agency Public Protection Arrangements (MAPPA) by Staffordshire Police, ensuring his behaviour and any future risk in Wolstanton, Newcastle-under-Lyme, or elsewhere are strictly monitored. Any further “vicious” actions or attempts to work in a position of trust will result in his immediate arrest and return to prison.

Paedophile Driving Instructor Martyn Rees was sentenced to 13 years in prison.
