Rapist Marin Covaci, 37, from Hanley, Stoke-on-Trent, rescued the survivor in Kidsgrove in December 2023. He informed her that he would transport her home.
Upon her entry, he proceeded to a layby, secured the vehicle, and assaulted her.
Subsequent to the occurrence, the survivor courageously recounted the experience to another individual. We commenced our investigation upon receiving the allegation and apprehended Marin Covaci the next day.
He was accused of raping a woman and compelling a female to participate in sexual conduct. He refuted the charges in court.
The survivor’s remarkable courage and the evidence collected during the investigation led the jury to convict Marin Covaci on both charges at a prior hearing. He was sentenced to six years in prison at Stoke-on-Trent Crown Court on Thursday (4 September), issued an indefinite restraining order against the survivor, and placed on the Sex Offenders’ registry indefinitely.
