Back in 2020, Krystian Kwarta, the Milford-on-Sea Rapist, was incarcerated for raping and assaulting a woman in the vicinity of the West Quay shopping complex.

Krystian Kwarta, 20 (now 25), of Keyhaven Road, Milford-on-Sea, has been sentenced to eight years in prison, with a further four years on licence, for assaulting a 21-year-old woman as she walked to work in Southampton city centre on Saturday, February 15.

The police initiated an inquiry following a woman’s claim that an unidentified man assaulted her from behind and raped her near the West Quay shopping centre.

Officers from Southampton’s Operation Amberstone team promptly scrutinised substantial CCTV footage, including the West Quay retail park, and identified an individual present at the location of the assault.

CCTV footage revealed that shortly before 8 AM, the individual, identified as Krystian Kwarta, began to trail the woman towards the retail mall. Shortly thereafter, she was brutally assaulted and raped by him.

Upon identifying the likely culprit, a comprehensive CCTV analysis was conducted, directing officers to a residence in Milford-on-Sea. Krystian Kwarta was apprehended and sent to Southampton Central police station for interrogation, where it was established that his DNA corresponded with that found at the crime scene.

On 18 February, officers accused Krystian Kwarta of two counts of rape and one count of assault. He entered a guilty plea to the charges at Southampton Crown Court on 20 March and was subsequently sentenced to eight years in prison, along with an additional four years on licence.

Detective Sergeant Claire Ratcliffe, Deputy Senior Investigating Officer, stated: “This was a premeditated, violent assault on a young woman en route to her workplace.”

Kwarta had evidently been surveilling the vicinity prior to locating his victim and thereafter pursuing her to execute his violent assault. After a swift investigation by Southampton’s Operation Amberstone team, demonstrating our commitment to apprehending a dangerous offender and securing justice for the victim, Krystian Kwarta was apprehended and charged within days of committing his violent act.

The forensic evidence and CCTV footage compelled Krystian Kwarta to plead guilty, and I am gratified that we have successfully secured justice, preventing this woman from having to recount her trauma in court.

This period has undoubtedly been stressful for the victim, and I congratulate her bravery and fortitude in reporting the incident. I anticipate that today’s statement will provide her with closure and facilitate her progression in life.

In such instances, we collaborate with the Independent Sexual Violence Advocate Service, Yellow Door, to guarantee sufficient support for victims during investigations. We anticipate that the robustness of this collaboration, in conjunction with such convictions, will motivate victims to come forward and disclose their experiences to us.
